Ὁ Πνευματικὸς Σεισμὸς τῆς Προσκομιδῆς .The Spiritual Earthquake of the Proskomide.

From pain, to the “senseless injustice,” and from there to deification
Sealed with the testimony of Saint Theodosios of Chernigov
«Ἐσύ;
Ἐσύ ποὺ εἶσαι στὸν θρόνον τοῦ Θεοῦ;
The Spiritual Earthquake of the Proskomide
From pain, to the “senseless injustice,” and from there to deification
Sealed with the testimony of Saint Theodosios of Chernigov
There are moments in the Divine Liturgy that cannot be contained within the human mind.
Moments that cannot be explained, analyzed, or described.
Moments that can only be experienced.
One such moment is when the priest takes the particles and immerses them into the Holy Chalice, saying:
“Wash away, O Lord, the sins of all those commemorated here by Thy Precious Blood…”
That moment is an earthquake.
Not only of the soul—
but of earth, heaven, and Hades.
For into the Chalice there do not fall crumbs,
but names, lives, wounds, souls.
And here the mystery begins.
I. The Paralytic — the encounter through toil
The Paralytic waited thirty‑eight whole years in patience.
Without complaint.
Without despair.
Without resistance.
He remained there, waiting for a single moment.
And when Christ came,
the hour of resurrection arrived.
His encounter with God was the fruit of struggle.
II. The sinner of the Proskomide — the encounter through another’s love
But there is another path.
The most fearful.
The most incomprehensible.
The “senseless” one (ἀ‑νόητος = without human logic).
The person who did not struggle,
who did not repent,
who did not weep,
who departed this life in sin,
who can no longer repent…
This person is saved by the love of another.
Another—perhaps poor,
perhaps sinful,
perhaps unknown—
commemorates him,
“placing him into the Proskomide of the priest.”
And his name falls into the Blood of Christ.
And there—
in the place of the Sacrifice,
in the place where Love became Blood,
in the place where the All‑Holy Mother wiped the Blood of Her Son—
there he is washed,
there he is cleansed,
there he is saved.
And this is not injustice.
For there is no injustice with God.
III. The testimony of Saint Theodosios of Chernigov
The seal of a Saint upon this truth
Before the uncovering of his holy relics,
a priest serving in that church
sat down to rest for a moment.
And suddenly he saw Saint Theodosios alive before him.
And the Saint said:
“I beg you, commemorate my parents.”
The priest was astonished:
“You?
You who stand before the throne of God?
You ask me to commemorate your parents?”
And the Saint replied:
“Yes.
Your commemoration has greater power
than my intercessions.”
Behold the seal.
Behold the confirmation.
Behold the truth.
The commemoration offered by the priest
opens the heavens,
changes eternities,
and reaches where even a Saint cannot reach
without the grace of the priesthood.
IV. The communicant — the one who does not merely meet God, but is united with Him
You who have struggled,
who have carried crosses,
who have commemorated souls,
who have brought names into the Chalice…
You come to Holy Communion.
And you do not merely meet Christ.
You receive Him.
His Body becomes your body.
His Blood becomes your blood.
His Life becomes your life.
And you hear:
“I will come to him and make My dwelling within him.”
This is not an encounter.
It is union.
It is indwelling.
It is deification.
The human person becomes
all Christ,
by grace.
The threefold path of salvation
1. The Paralytic
– meets God through toil.
2. The sinner of the Proskomide
– meets God through another’s love.
3. The communicant
– does not merely meet,
but is united,
and deified.
Epilogue
The Proskomide is the earthquake that shakes earth, heaven, and Hades.
Commemoration is the love that reaches into the depths of Hades.
Holy Communion is the indwelling of God within you.
And the love of God is an unfathomable abyss.
And when a person understands the magnitude of this love,
the heart falls silent,
and silence becomes doxology.
And to God be the glory.
